Counselling that fits the season you're in

I work with adults dealing with stress, anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, relationship difficulties and periods of change that have become harder to manage alone. The approaches I draw on, mostly cognitive behavioural and solution-focused, have good research behind them, but in the room they look like an ordinary conversation about what's been happening and what might actually help.

We'll work out early on what you'd like to be different, and we'll come back to it as we go, because what matters in the first session isn't always what matters in the fourth. I won't promise a particular outcome, and I'd be cautious of anyone who does. What I can offer is a considered, confidential conversation, strategies that fit your real circumstances rather than an ideal version of them, and an honest answer if I think another service would serve you better.

Every season is different, and life builds us up differently.

Hi, I'm Jordan.

Most people who contact me aren't in crisis. They're tired. Something has been building for a while. It might be work, a relationship, a decision they keep circling, or a change they didn't choose. Either way, they've reached the point where thinking it through alone isn't getting them anywhere.

That's a good reason to talk to someone. You don't need a diagnosis, a clear explanation, or the right words to start.

Where I've come from

My background is in education. Teaching taught me a lot about what people carry quietly: the constant decision-making, the responsibility for other people's wellbeing, the expectations arriving from several directions at once, and the work that doesn't stop when you leave the building.

It also showed me how often people keep going long past the point where something needed to change, not because they don't care, but because they care a great deal and can't see a way to step back without letting someone down.

That's the conversation I'm most interested in having.

How I work

Counselling with me is a conversation. I'm not going to sit across from you as the expert who has already worked out what your life needs.

What we'll usually do is look at what's been happening, understand some of the patterns sitting underneath it, and explore strategies that fit your actual circumstances: your workload, your energy, your relationships, and the things you can't simply remove from your life.

I draw on cognitive behavioural and solution-focused ideas, which mostly means two things in practice. We'll pay attention to the relationship between what you think, how you feel and what you do, because that's often where change becomes possible. And we'll spend time on what's already working, not only on what's difficult.

Some sessions are practical and we leave with something specific to try. Others are simply thinking out loud with someone who isn't involved in the situation. Both are useful.

What I won't do

I won't promise to fix anything, and I won't give you advice dressed up as insight. I also won't tell you that you need more resilience when the honest answer is that your situation is genuinely demanding.

If it turns out I'm not the right person or counselling isn't the right service, I'll tell you, and I'll help you work out who to talk to instead. That's a good outcome, not a failed one.

If any of this sounds like where you're at, you're welcome to get in touch. You can book a free session or send me a message first if you'd like to ask a few questions.

My approach

Counselling here is collaborative. We work on it together rather than me working on you.

In practice, that means looking at what's been happening, understanding the patterns around it, and developing strategies that suit your life rather than an ideal version of it. I draw on cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, paying attention to how thoughts, feelings and behaviour influence each other, and building on what's already going reasonably well.

We'll set some direction early on so you know what we're working towards, and we'll revisit it, because what matters at the start isn't always what matters three sessions in.

You don't need to arrive with the right words or even know exactly what you want to work on.

Who I work with

I work with adults who are navigating things like:

  • stress, anxiety and overwhelm

  • burnout and emotional exhaustion

  • pressure at work, or a workplace that has become difficult

  • relationship difficulties

  • big decisions and life transitions

  • feeling stuck, or unsure what you want next

  • changes in identity, direction or confidence

  • finding your emotions hard to make sense of

  • recovering emotionally after a difficult period

You don't need to see your situation on that list. If something has been sitting with you, that's reason enough to talk about it.
